Artisan Assistant – Hospital Facility Maintenance

About the role

A vacancy exists for an Artisan Assistant at Life Flora Hospital in Johannesburg, reporting to the Operations Engineering Manager. The role involves inspecting and performing maintenance repairs on the hospital’s buildings and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily inspections and complete job cards for all electrical systems, including UPS, generators, vacuum pumps, air compressors and air‑conditioning units.
• Perform fault finding and repairs on nurse‑call and TV systems, as well as plumbing and water‑reticulation networks.
• Maintain stock and inventory of materials and spares required for maintenance tasks.
• Assist with the management of contractors on site by issuing permits‑to‑work and monitoring their activities.
• Provide standby duty according to the department’s roster and support team members during absences.

Required profile

• Matric/N3 qualification; N3/N4 Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• Valid driver’s licence and own transport.
• Previous experience in hospital or similar facility maintenance is advantageous.
• Willingness to work overtime when required.

Required skills

• Inspection and maintenance of electrical systems such as UPS, generators, vacuum pumps, air compressors and HVAC.
• Fault diagnosis and repair of nurse‑call, TV and plumbing/water‑reticulation systems.
• Use of hand tools and basic plant equipment.
• Experience with SAP plant‑maintenance or other CMMS for job‑card processing.
