Apprentice: Fitter & Turner (Durban)

About the role

Transnet is recruiting an apprentice fitter and turner in Koedoespoort, Durban, under its Trainee employee group. The apprenticeship prepares trainees to operate independently and productively so they can become competent qualified artisans. The closing date is 27 October 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and prepare work sites, equipment, tools, consumables and materials for trade-related activities.
• Use hand, power and measuring tools.
• Install, assemble, fit and connect electrical equipment and control systems.
• Test, inspect, commission, maintain and repair electrical equipment, control systems, installations and assemblies.

Required profile

• Completed either: an N2-N6 certificate covering relevant trade theory, engineering science, mathematics and other relevant subjects; or an NCV Level 4 certificate with trade theory, mathematics and vocational subjects; or Technical grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science and relevant trade theory.
• Must have passed Mathematics at 50% or more and must not hold a trade certificate (Red Seal).
• Age between 18 and 30 and a South African citizen.
• Preferred: applicants who are members of the designated groups in line with the organisation's Employment Equity Plan and targets.
