Algorithmic Trading Software Developer

About the role

FNB is seeking a skilled Algorithmic Trading Software Developer to join its Global Markets division in Johannesburg. The role focuses on designing, developing, and enhancing high‑performance trading systems that support market‑making and trading strategies across FX, Fixed Income, Commodities and Equities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, code, test, and support low‑latency algorithmic trading, electronic pricing and market‑making platforms that process real‑time market data at extreme speeds.
• Implement sophisticated smart‑order routing, execution algorithms, market‑making logic and automated trading workflows to improve execution quality.
• Build and maintain reusable frameworks, services and libraries for pricing engines, risk management, analytics and market connectivity.
• Optimise application performance through profiling, lock‑free programming, cache‑friendly data structures and latency reduction techniques.
• Develop resilient market‑data ingestion, distribution, pricing and risk components for high‑availability production environments.
• Collaborate with traders, quants and product owners to validate strategies, leverage historical data and drive automation.
• Create real‑time monitoring, telemetry and observability tools to support operational excellence.
