Admission Clerk

About the role

We are looking for an Admission Clerk to join the admissions team at Life East London Private Hospital. Reporting to the Admission Supervisor, you will manage patient admissions, handle cash transactions and provide front‑desk support in a fast‑paced private‑healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out admission and receptionist duties, including admitting patients onto the Impilo system.
• Receive and handle cash, and assist with billing and account filing.
• Liaise with medical aid providers to obtain authorisation for admissions.
• Accurately record all patient admissions and maintain departmental documentation.
• Operate the hospital switchboard and perform general administrative tasks.
• Work 12‑hour shifts while adhering to hospital protocols and departmental procedures.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in a healthcare setting with customer‑service and people‑management exposure.
• Comprehensive knowledge of admissions procedures and basic financial principles.
• Understanding of private‑healthcare industry dynamics is an advantage.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, able to work under pressure and at short notice.

Required skills

• Proficiency with IMEDS or a comparable hospital admissions software.
