Admission Clerk – Hospital Front Desk

About the role

The Admission Clerk will be the first point of contact for patients entering Life St. George's Hospital. Reporting to the Patient Services Supervisor, you will ensure smooth admissions, accurate bed allocation and timely cash handling.

Key responsibilities

• Admit patients onto the Impilo system and manage the daily admission register.
• Allocate theatre beds each morning and coordinate with clinical teams.
• Receive and handle cash transactions, assist with billing and account reconciliation.
• Liaise with medical aid providers to obtain admission authorisations.
• Operate the hospital switchboard and perform general receptionist duties.
• Maintain compliance with hospital protocols and departmental procedures.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Previous experience in a healthcare environment, preferably with people‑management and customer‑service exposure.
• Ability to work under pressure, respond to short‑notice shift changes and handle confidential information.
• Strong problem‑solving, resilience and ethical conduct.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hospital admission software – specifically IMEDS or a comparable system.
• Basic computer literacy and familiarity with financial transaction processing.
