ADABAS Developer

About the role

We are seeking an ADABAS Developer to join a well‑established technology and business solutions organisation in Johannesburg. The role focuses on designing, building and maintaining mainframe‑based applications that support critical business processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug and deploy ADABAS/Natural programs for batch and online processing.
• Maintain and enhance existing mainframe applications, ensuring reliability and performance.
• Produce and update technical documentation, system specifications and user guides.
• Conduct feasibility assessments, impact analyses and code reviews, providing guidance to junior developers.
• Support change‑control procedures and ensure all modifications are properly recorded.
• Provide technical support, troubleshooting and training to end‑users.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and participate in system integration and implementation activities.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of hands‑on Natural/ADABAS development experience.
• Extensive exposure to both batch and online processing environments on mainframe platforms.
• Proven ability to conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers.
