Accounting Manager, UK Clients (Remote, South Africa)

About the role

Sleek, a provider of accounting, bookkeeping, tax and payroll services to micro-SMEs, is looking for an Accounting Manager to oversee a portfolio of around 300 UK small business clients, growing it to around 500 by 2027. The team is based mostly in India and the Philippines, and the role is remote in South Africa while reporting to leadership in the UK office.

Key responsibilities

• Run the portfolio end to end: year-end accounts, corporation tax returns, VAT returns and confirmation statements.
• Review and sign off the team's work, and coach it so it is right the first time.
• Prepare management accounts for clients who need them and take calls to explain them.
• Chase deadlines early when a client's delay risks a deadline, keeping a record and explaining the consequences.
• Keep client records and workflow data accurate so anyone can see where each client stands.
• Work with Product, Tech, Sales, Support and Onboarding to fix problems at their source.
• Use the AI tools built into the products and workflows, and help shape them.

Required profile

• Fully qualified ACCA, ICAEW (ACA) or ICAS (CA) member.
• At least 5 years in UK accounting practice, including at least 2 years running your own portfolio of 150 or more SME clients.
• Expert knowledge of UK statutory accounts (FRS 102 and 105) for private limited companies.
• Strong knowledge of corporation tax and VAT, including preparing and reviewing returns.
• Experience reviewing and managing a team's work, including remote or offshore staff.
• Based in South Africa with legal working rights.

Required skills

• Confident with Xero or a similar cloud accounting package.
• Experience preparing management accounts and explaining them to business owners.
