Accountant – Retail Distribution (Epping, Cape Town)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Accountant to join a retail distribution company in Epping, Cape Town. The role is onsite and involves managing daily payments, cashbook, foreign creditor transactions, month‑end processes and compliance reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, process and capture daily payments and maintain accurate cashbook records with proper GL allocations.
• Manage foreign creditor documentation, ensure SARB compliance and reconcile foreign accounts.
• Post journals, reconcile GL accounts, prepare monthly reports and support management accounts.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns, process payments and ensure SARS compliance.
• Maintain and reconcile GL accounts, prepare year‑end audit files and support auditors.
• Assist with management accounts, asset registers, financial reporting and statutory submissions.

Required profile

• Diploma or B.Com degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounts, preferably in distribution or retail.
• Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles, VAT submission and reconciliations.
• Proficiency with financial reporting software, accounting systems and SAP or a similar ERP.
• Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel, and familiarity with Word, Outlook and Teams.
