Accountant

About the role

Our client in Sandton is looking for a dedicated Accountant to manage the full spectrum of accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with South African regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records and the general ledger.
• Capture, review, and post financial transactions, process journals, accruals, provisions and month‑end adjustments.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, income statements, balance sheets, cash‑flow reports and trial balances.
• Handle accounts payable: review supplier invoices, reconcile suppliers, process payments and resolve queries.
• Manage accounts receivable: issue invoices, monitor debtor balances, follow up overdue accounts and reconcile payments.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly bank reconciliations and monitor cash balances.
• Support payroll and HR finance: review payroll reports, reconcile payroll to the accounting system and ensure statutory deductions are processed.
• Ensure tax and statutory compliance: prepare VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL reconciliations and assist with EMP201, EMP501, income‑tax and company‑tax submissions.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register, record purchases, disposals, depreciation and assist with inventory reconciliation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial accounting, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliation and cash‑flow management.
• Familiarity with payroll processing and South African statutory requirements (PAYE, UIF, SDL, VAT).
• Experience preparing month‑end accounts, financial statements and supporting audit processes.
• Ability to maintain asset registers and perform inventory reconciliations.
