Accountant – Financial Accounting in Freight & Logistics

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Financial Accountant to join a high‑performing finance team within a leading freight and logistics company. Reporting to the Financial Manager and interacting regularly with senior leadership, you will own the general ledger across multiple entities and contribute to strategic finance projects.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger for several entities, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
• Process bank transactions, journals, accruals, provisions and month‑end entries.
• Perform month‑end balance‑sheet reconciliations and support timely financial close.
• Manage year‑end close activities and assist with annual audit preparation.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning initiatives.
• Analyse financial data and provide insights to management.
• Identify inefficiencies, recommend improvements and drive automation.
• Prepare statutory returns such as VAT and PAYE and assist with CIPC compliance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the business and support ad‑hoc finance projects.

Required profile

• Degree in Finance (or Finance with articles) and at least 3 years of commercial accounting experience, or 6 years without articles.
• Strong experience in month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Detail‑oriented with excellent problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines and thrive under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for engagement across cultures and organisational levels.

Required skills

• Sage Intacct (or similar ERP/accounting system).
• Draftworx.
• eFiling.
• Knowledge of VAT, PAYE and CIPC processes.
