Accountant – Finance Team (Cape Town)

About the role

Propr is looking for an experienced accountant to join its Finance team in Cape Town. You will ensure accurate financial reporting, reconciliations and compliance for a growing portfolio of short‑term rentals across South Africa, Dubai and Portugal.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger, fixed‑asset register and manage accounts payable/receivable.
• Process journals, accruals, pre‑payments and perform balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Own month‑end close, prepare management accounts and statutory financial statements.
• Calculate, prepare and submit VAT and other statutory returns; liaise with suppliers, banks and SARS.
• Review client statements, reconcile payments and update debtor records.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasts, variance analysis and provide performance recommendations.
• Execute end‑to‑end payroll processing, reconciliation and statutory submissions.
• Identify and resolve issues proactively, supporting the wider finance function as needed.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting degree.
• 3‑5 years of accounting experience in a high‑volume environment.
• Based in Cape Town.
• Strong numerical ability, detail‑oriented and excellent communication skills.
• Highly organised, able to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.

Required skills

• Cloud accounting platforms – Xero, Sage or QuickBooks.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets (pivot tables, look‑ups).
• Solid knowledge of IFRS for SMEs and multi‑currency transactions.
• In‑depth understanding of SARS VAT and tax compliance.
• End‑to‑end payroll processing and statutory submissions.
• Experience with custom Property Management Systems, Asana and Front.
