Accountant / Bookkeeper

About the role

The Sage Bookkeeper will maintain accurate financial records for Flor Do Tejo & Sustainable Foods using Sage Accounting/Evolution 200. The role supports day‑to‑day transactions, prepares reports for management, and ensures compliance with statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Capture and process daily cashbook, journal, invoice and receipt entries in Sage.
• Maintain general ledger, debtor and creditor accounts; allocate customer and supplier payments.
• Reconcile bank statements, debtor and creditor balances each month.
• Generate trial balances, age analyses, VAT reports, income statements and balance sheets.
• Prepare VAT (VAT201) calculations and assist with PAYE, UIF and other statutory submissions.
• Support auditors, manage audit‑ready documentation and perform ad‑hoc financial queries.
• Process stock receipts, issues and adjustments in Pastel and assist with physical stock takes.
• Balance and reconcile inter‑company transactions and manage inter‑branch coordination.

Required profile

• Matric with Accounting and higher‑grade mathematics.
• Diploma or degree in Accounting.
• 8‑10 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably with Sage Accounting/Evolution/Xpress.
• Strong knowledge of VAT, basic payroll principles and South African accounting standards.
• Proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
