Workshop Technician

About the role

The President Hotel in Cape Town is looking for a Workshop Technician to carry out maintenance, repairs and fabrication work in its workshop. The role works closely with the Engineering and Maintenance team to keep the hotel running smoothly, with work done to a high standard while minimising disruption to guests.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on hotel equipment, furniture, fixtures and facilities.
• Repair, refurbish and fabricate components within the workshop.
• Assist with on-site maintenance and urgent repairs across guest and back-of-house areas.
• Complete work to a high standard of quality and durability while minimising disruption to guests.
• Operate and maintain workshop tools and machinery safely and efficiently.
• Inspect and test completed work to ensure reliability and performance.
• Maintain a clean, organised and functional workshop.
• Monitor tools, materials and inventory levels, reporting shortages, defects and equipment concerns to maintenance leadership.
• Handle and store workshop equipment and materials correctly.
• Follow health and safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment and maintain operational standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 2-3 years' experience in a hotel workshop or maintenance role; previous hotel experience is essential.
• Proven experience in workshop maintenance, repairs or fabrication.
• A technical or trade qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Workshop Engineering is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, with good teamwork and communication skills.
• A reliable, disciplined and safety-conscious approach to work.

• Good understanding of maintenance, repair and fabrication processes.
• Strong technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
