Workshop & Production Manager (Johannesburg)

About the role

Our client, a well‑established construction and manufacturing organisation, is seeking a senior Workshop & Production Manager to lead all workshop and production activities from its Kempton Park site in Johannesburg. The role combines operational leadership, technical oversight and continuous improvement to ensure safe, high‑quality and cost‑effective delivery of manufactured products.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and control production to meet delivery targets while maintaining quality, safety and cost standards.
• Provide technical leadership to workshop staff, troubleshoot faults and optimise processes.
• Manage stock control, procurement and inventory levels to support uninterrupted production.
• Oversee maintenance of equipment, tools and workshop facilities.
• Implement production systems, process improvements and performance monitoring.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and company policies.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent with a Technical Certificate; tertiary trade qualification preferred.
• Minimum 5 years experience in workshop or production management, or as a workshop mechanic with significant leadership exposure.
• Proven experience in the construction or manufacturing sector.
• Demonstrated ability to manage staff, production planning, stock management and procurement.

Required skills

• Strong production planning capability.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings.
• Technical fault‑finding and basic electrical knowledge.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools and fabrication processes.
• Practical welding skills (TIG, ARC, CO₂ and Spot welding).
• Capability to work safely at heights when required.
• Computer literacy and familiarity with production software.
