Working Capital Manager

About the role

The Working Capital Manager leads and optimises the end‑to‑end working capital cycle, covering work‑in‑progress, billing, accounts receivable and collections. The role partners with senior lawyers, fee earners and finance teams to improve cash conversion, enforce financial discipline and provide insight into working capital performance and risk.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies to improve cash conversion, reduce ageing and strengthen working capital performance across the firm.
• Review work‑in‑progress regularly, drive billing actions, oversee accurate conversion of WIP into client invoices and resolve complex billing queries.
• Manage accounts receivable, create collection plans, monitor overdue/high‑risk accounts and achieve monthly and annual collection targets.
• Produce working capital reports, forecasts and analysis for finance leadership, translating data into actionable insights.
• Build strong relationships with partners, fee earners and finance stakeholders, conducting regular revenue reviews and promoting accountability.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in working capital, revenue management, billing, credit control or collections, preferably within a legal or professional services environment.
• Proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and manage the matter lifecycle from WIP to collection.
• Relevant finance, accounting or business management qualification; professional finance or credit management certification is advantageous.
• Leadership or supervisory experience is desirable.
