Water Quality Officer

About the role

Bela-Bela Local Municipality is seeking a Water Quality Officer to supervise the operation and maintenance of its water treatment works, ensure compliance with water quality standards, and support strategic water service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise operations and maintenance of water treatment works through established procedures and systems.
• Inspect and analyse plant performance reports and implement corrective measures.
• Conduct water quality testing and adjust operating parameters as needed.
• Identify infrastructure replacement or refurbishment needs to reduce water losses.
• Evaluate key performance indicators and provide strategic information for water service planning.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with a three‑year Diploma/National Diploma in Water Care, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Minimum 2 years experience in municipal potable water and wastewater treatment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the National Water Act (1998) and related policies.
• Understanding of Integrated Water Resource Management principles.
• Familiarity with BUS/GDS drop system.
• Ability to conduct water quality testing and analysis.
