Volunteer Doctor in Hoedspruit

About the role

The Tshemba Foundation is seeking qualified medical professionals to volunteer as doctors in Hoedspruit, South Africa. Volunteers will support a public hospital and surrounding clinics, providing direct and indirect patient care, sharing expertise with local staff, and contributing to health‑care improvements in rural Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver direct or indirect patient care across multiple hospital departments and community clinics.
• Provide postgraduate support, training, and mentorship to local medical staff.
• Develop and implement health interventions, clinical protocols, and quality‑improvement projects.
• Assist with administrative and management tasks related to clinical services.

Required profile

• Current medical license in good standing.
• Registration with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
• Registered medical professional; priority given to GPs/family physicians with diabetes expertise, neurologists, dermatologists, hospitalists, ophthalmologists, paediatricians, general surgeons, as well as allied professionals such as optometrists, speech therapists, and dieticians.

Required skills

• Clinical expertise in the chosen medical specialty.
• Ability to teach, mentor, and support local healthcare teams.
• Experience developing clinical protocols and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Familiarity with public‑health or rural health settings.
