Verification Officer (Fieldworker)

About the role

The Verification Officer will carry out on‑site household verifications for social assistance programmes. You will confirm household composition, collect documentation and photographic evidence, and ensure all data is accurate before benefits are approved.

Key responsibilities

• Visit households applying for assistance and record the number of occupants.
• Verify identities of residents and interview occupants when required.
• Capture clear photographs of the property in line with programme guidelines.
• Prepare detailed verification reports for review and filing.
• Liaise with community leaders, ward councillors and other stakeholders to facilitate the verification process.
• Ensure compliance with subsidy policies and relevant legislation.
• Maintain confidentiality and handle household information sensitively.
• Support outreach and awareness campaigns related to social support programmes.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
• 1–3 years experience in community work, NGOs, CBOs, social work or similar field roles within South Africa.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Fluency in English and at least one local language.

Required skills

• Basic computer literacy (MS Office, email, data entry).
• Comfortable using digital devices and applications for data collection and reporting.
