Vehicle Purchasing Manager

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑driven, organised and proactive Vehicle Purchasing Manager to lead our fast‑paced vehicle operations purchasing function. You will oversee purchasing teams, monitor vehicle stock movement and ensure vehicles are processed, prepared, stocked, sold and paid within required turnaround times.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate, train and support Purchasing Supervisors, Purchasers, Sales Admin, Lead Converters and Branch Purchasers.
• Drive high lead conversion rates and exceed purchasing targets.
• Monitor daily vehicle stock statuses across all stages and ensure efficient movement.
• Follow up on problem vehicles, NATIS, SAPS issues, admin marks, dealer stocking delays and registration documents.
• Validate vehicle condition, code, make, variant, year model and starter status before purchase.
• Oversee lead activity across web, own, branch and external channels.
• Track paid sales contract turnaround times, supplier payments, consignment stock and finance‑related follow‑ups.
• Review Power BI and operational reports daily to monitor purchases, gross profit, sales, stock ageing and team performance.
• Conduct regular follow‑up meetings with supervisors and team members.

Required profile

• Strong leadership and excellent follow‑up skills.
• Confidence working with reports and managing multiple priorities.
• Hands‑on, deadline‑driven and highly organised.
• Comfortable leading a busy purchasing environment and taking ownership of issues.
• Firm yet professional, detail‑focused and able to work under pressure.
• Motivated by improving turnaround times, stock movement and department performance.
