Unit Manager – Theatre (Qualified)

About the role

The Life Peglerae Hospital is seeking a dynamic Unit Manager – Theatre (Qualified) to lead the operating room team. Reporting to the Theatre Manager, you will ensure safe, high‑quality patient care while driving operational efficiency and compliance with hospital standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and oversee nursing care within the operating room.
• Maintain and improve clinical standards, policies, and regulatory compliance.
• Monitor patient safety, infection prevention, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Manage surgical lists, theatre utilisation, and patient flow.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to optimise peri‑operative outcomes.
• Oversee staffing, resource allocation, and operational efficiency.
• Drive compliance with accreditation, SANC regulations, and hospital protocols.
• Participate in audits, incident investigations, and performance improvement programmes.
• Facilitate staff training, mentoring, and professional development.
• Manage stock utilisation and equipment readiness.

Required profile

• Diploma or Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery.
• Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Postgraduate qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing Science (essential).
• Relevant management qualification (advantageous).
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in operating theatre nursing or related clinical leadership.
