Unit Manager – Surgical Ward

About the role

The Surgical Ward at Life Anncron Hospital is seeking a Unit Manager to lead clinical practice, manage resources and drive quality outcomes. Reporting to the Nursing Manager, you will empower staff and align the unit with the company’s strategic goals of growth, efficiency, quality and sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Manage financial resources to deliver cost‑effective, high‑quality nursing care, including budgeting for staff, pharmaceuticals, equipment and sundries.
• Provide clinical leadership that meets international standards for patient safety, experience and clinical outcomes.
• Oversee patient complaints and adverse events in line with policy.
• Recruit, retain and develop nursing staff, fostering a culture of empowerment and low turnover.
• Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support business growth.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Nursing with Midwifery and a Health Service Management qualification.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Relevant nursing experience, preferably in a surgical setting.
• Proven leadership and people‑management abilities.
• Basic knowledge of labour legislation, financial and supply‑chain principles.
• Understanding of the private healthcare sector is advantageous.
• Computer proficiency, a valid driver’s licence and ability to travel.
