Unit Manager – Surgical Ward (Hospital Group)

About the role

The Unit Manager will lead the Surgical Ward within a private hospital group, ensuring safe, high‑quality patient care and efficient service delivery. Reporting to senior hospital leadership, the manager will coordinate a multidisciplinary team, drive continuous improvement and uphold clinical governance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Guarantee safe, cost‑effective patient care aligned with the hospital’s clinical governance strategy and evidence‑based practice.
• Monitor patient journey, experience and stakeholder feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
• Track nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes, reporting findings to senior management.
• Communicate clearly with patients and families about care plans and progress.
• Promote health, wellbeing and infection‑prevention standards across the unit.
• Lead quality initiatives and liaise with public liability regarding risk incidents.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing qualification (General Nursing Degree/Diploma); Health Services Management qualification is a plus.
• 3‑5 years of management experience in a private‑sector healthcare setting.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council and compliance with SANC code and relevant legislation.
• Compulsory Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
