About the role

The Unit Manager for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Netcare Unitas Hospital will lead the delivery of high‑quality nursing care, ensuring compliance with professional and ethical standards while supporting a multidisciplinary quality‑assurance team.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and improve quality nursing care within the PICU.
• Ensure adherence to professional, ethical, and regulatory standards.
• Monitor nursing service delivery and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives, mentoring, and training for nursing staff.
• Manage acuity levels, skill mix, and cost‑effective resource allocation.
• Oversee billing, stock management, purchasing, and accurate file compilation.
• Identify quality‑improvement opportunities and implement measurable initiatives.
• Investigate negative incidents, capture data in IMS, and report safety concerns.
• Maintain compliance with safety legislation, equipment upkeep, and asset register control.
• Ensure safe, cost‑effective patient care aligned with clinical governance strategies.

Required profile

• Registered nurse with extensive clinical experience in intensive care.
• Proven leadership and managerial experience in a hospital setting.
• Strong knowledge of clinical governance, quality improvement, and risk management.
• Ability to manage budgets, staffing mixes, and procurement processes.
• Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
