Unit Manager - Paediatric / PICU Ward

About the role

The Unit Manager for the Paediatric/PICU ward will lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high‑quality nursing care. This full‑time position is based at Netcare Kuilsrivier Hospital and focuses on clinical governance, financial stewardship, and staff development.

Key responsibilities

• Manage acuities and skill mix to ensure cost‑effective, quality patient care.
• Oversee billing, stock management and purchasing processes.
• Identify quality‑improvement opportunities and develop measurable initiatives.
• Investigate negative incidents, capture data on IMS and report to safety representatives.
• Monitor safety standards, equipment maintenance and compliance with occupational safety legislation.
• Ensure patient care aligns with clinical governance strategy and evidence‑based practice.
• Promote health and wellbeing of patients and staff, adhering to infection‑prevention protocols.
• Lead staff development through coaching, mentoring, orientation and conflict management.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification (Diploma or BCur degree) and registration with the South African Nursing Council.
• Sound financial knowledge with ability to interpret financial data.
• Intermediate computer proficiency.
• At least 2 years experience in a private hospital setting (preferred).
• Relevant management qualification (preferred).
