Underground Fitter

About the role

South Deep is seeking an experienced Underground Fitter to join the Engineering – Infrastructure team at the South Deep Gold Mine. The role focuses on the maintenance, installation and repair of shaft winder systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation of personnel, material and ore conveyance.

Key responsibilities

• Execute scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks on all surface winder equipment, including Blair Multi Rope (BMR), double and single drum winders.
• Perform inspections and condition monitoring in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act and company standards.
• Maintain the highest safety standards, applying relevant procedures and contributing to a zero‑harm culture.
• Carry out legal inspections of mechanical installations and ensure compliance with MHSA and Minerals Act regulations.
• Support project work related to winder installation, upgrades and repairs.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent with a relevant Fitter Trade Certificate.
• Minimum 7 years experience as a fitter, including at least 5 years of winder maintenance.
• Medical fitness for underground work, including a heat‑tolerance screening.
• Proven personal safety track record and ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
