Underground Engineering Manager

About the role

The Underground Engineering Manager will lead the engineering function for a mining operation in Gauteng, ensuring engineering standards, asset performance optimisation and support for both operational and capital projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering leadership and contribute to strategic and operational planning.
• Manage engineering resources to meet production targets and project requirements.
• Develop, implement and monitor maintenance, risk and operational engineering strategies.
• Ensure engineering infrastructure and equipment are maintained to support operations.
• Drive engineering standards, procedures and compliance to minimise business risks.
• Provide engineering input for major capital projects and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Manage engineering‑related risks and implement mitigation measures.
• Oversee compliance with legal, environmental, health and safety regulations.
• Lead, develop and coach engineering personnel.
• Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to cost optimisation.

Required profile

• Grade 12 and a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 7‑10 years of experience as an engineer in an underground mining environment.
• 3‑5 years in a senior engineering appointment (e.g., 2.13.1).
• Experience in project planning, cost of ownership analysis and financial modelling.
• Valid driver’s licence.
