Transfer Pricing Assistant Manager

About the role

BDO South Africa is seeking a qualified Transfer Pricing Assistant Manager to join its national Transfer Pricing and International Tax team in Johannesburg. The role involves supporting directors in advisory and compliance engagements, managing client relationships and contributing to the team’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, responding to requests, providing progress updates and maintaining regular communication.
• Manage advisory and compliance engagements under director supervision, including transfer pricing strategies, country‑by‑country reporting, master and local files.
• Oversee accrual reviews, due‑diligence processes and the preparation of proposals and billing in line with firm criteria.
• Ensure assignments are delivered within budget, adhere to BDO quality‑control procedures and identify risk or selling opportunities.
• Support directors in client and team management, including recruitment, appraisal and coaching of junior staff.
• Identify business development opportunities, contribute to bids and proposals, and expand professional networks.

Required profile

• CA(SA), TA(SA), Attorney with M.Com, LLM (Tax Law) or HDip (Tax) or a degree/post‑graduate qualification in economics.
• 3‑5 years of experience in Transfer Pricing and preferably International Tax.
• Strong knowledge of taxation, project management and staff management.
• Ability to manage a substantial client portfolio profitably and develop new business.
• Excellent communication, analytical and research skills with a focus on quality and compliance.
