Trainee Manager – Piggery (Eastern Cape)

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Trainee Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day operations of our piggery in the Eastern Cape. The role combines heavy‑maintenance responsibilities with animal welfare and team leadership on a busy farm environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prioritize and execute maintenance across buildings, pens, feed lines, pumps, water systems, fencing and general infrastructure.
• Lead, coach and hold the farm team accountable to high standards of animal welfare, biosecurity and productivity.
• Manage farm administration, including records, reports, stock counts, compliance documentation and staff scheduling.
• Drive production targets and continuously seek efficiency improvements.
• Be visibly present on the farm during early mornings, late nights and whenever operational needs arise.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence.
• Strong administrative ability with accurate record‑keeping.
• Proven leadership and people‑management skills.
• Genuine passion for pigs and livestock – this is not a desk‑only role.
• Willingness and stamina to work irregular hours, including early starts and late finishes.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in piggery, livestock or agricultural operations.
• Relevant tertiary qualification (Agriculture, Animal Production or related) preferred, though strong practical experience is also considered.
