Trade Accountant – Coal & Bulk Freight

About the role

We are seeking a Trade Accountant to join our Coal and Bulk Freight marketing trade accounting team in Johannesburg. The role focuses on month‑end and intra‑period close activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting in line with IFRS.

Key responsibilities

• Execute month‑end trade accounting close per profit centre according to IFRS.
• Prepare detailed monthly IFRS profit & loss and working capital reports.
• Review and reconcile departmental management reporting and SG&A/overhead reporting.
• Support regional offices with accounting challenges during period close.
• Coordinate external audit, internal audit and financial governance processes.
• Maintain up‑to‑date professional accounting, finance and control knowledge.
• Resolve P/L reconciliation breaks and document IFRS treatment for new structured deals.
• Automate manual journal entries for straight‑through processing to the general ledger.
• Identify and implement accounting best practices, processes and internal controls in collaboration with other trade accounting teams.
• Provide ad‑hoc financial reports and analysis to front‑office, middle‑office and corporate teams.

Required profile

• Chartered accounting qualification (CA, CPA or ACCA).
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• At least 1 year of post‑articles experience in a similar role.
• Background in accounting with strong knowledge of IFRS.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.
