Tissue Culture Laboratory Technician

About the role

Fall Creek is seeking a qualified Laboratory Tissue Culture (TC) Technician to join its collaborative team in Paarl, South Africa. The role focuses on performing in‑vitro plant processes to produce high‑quality plant material for research and commercial use.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out plant tissue culture procedures such as micropropagation, meristem culture, callus formation, and seedling germination.
• Prepare and sterilise culture media, manage quarantine material, and assist with seedling distribution.
• Monitor plant quality, detect contamination, and maintain detailed records of all activities.
• Perform ancillary tasks including bagging, parafilm application, and transferring plants to designated locations.
• Maintain a clean, aseptic laboratory environment and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.

Required profile

• Ability to work seated for long periods while wearing full PPE (lab coat, hair net, mask, gloves).
• Fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and sustained concentration for repetitive tasks.
• Physical capacity to lift up to 15 kg and climb a ladder for supply storage.
• Comfort with heat‑generating equipment such as autoclaves and ability to work in high‑volume settings.
