Theatre‑Qualified Orthopedic Registered Nurse

About the role

The Life Eugene Marais Hospital is seeking a Theatre‑Qualified Registered Nurse specialised in orthopaedics. Reporting to the Theatre Unit Manager, the nurse will support surgical teams and ensure optimal patient care throughout the peri‑operative process.

Key responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during orthopaedic procedures and ensure patient comfort.
• Manage theatre clocking time and accurate financial charging.
• Control consignment stock, equipment and prostheses in line with hospital policy.
• Educate and supervise staff on correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation.
• Obtain pre‑operative information and conduct post‑operative patient visits.
• Provide theatre‑specific training, assess staff competence and monitor normal/overtime hours.
• Ensure compliance with personal protective equipment, ISO standards and medical waste disposal.
• Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, escalating issues when needed.

Required profile

• Grade 12 National Senior Certificate.
• National General Nursing Degree or Diploma.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Diploma in Operating Theatre Technique.
• Relevant orthopaedic nursing experience (advantageous).
• Understanding of the private healthcare environment is a plus.
