Technical Buyer

About the role

The Technical Buyer will source engineering components, mechanical and electrical parts, production consumables and maintenance spares for a manufacturing operation in Durban. The role ensures cost‑effective procurement, supplier performance and uninterrupted material availability.

Key responsibilities

• Source and procure technical equipment, engineering components, maintenance spares and production materials.
• Obtain quotations, negotiate pricing, lead times and commercial terms with local and international suppliers.
• Create and process purchase orders in compliance with company procedures.
• Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules and quality standards.
• Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders across Engineering, Maintenance, Production and Stores.
• Track inventory levels and replenish critical stock items in a timely manner.
• Resolve delivery issues, pricing discrepancies and quality concerns.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and drive supplier consolidation.
• Ensure procurement activities comply with governance and policy requirements.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier databases and procurement reports.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering or a related field.
• 3–5 years’ experience as a Technical Buyer in a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of technical components, engineering spares and industrial consumables.
• Experience negotiating with both local and international suppliers.
• Understanding of procurement processes and inventory management.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
