Team Leader – Plastic/Packaging Manufacturing

About the role

The company, a leader in the packaging and manufacturing sector, is looking for a proactive Team Leader to oversee plastic and packaging production at its Pinetown facility. You will be responsible for driving efficiency, quality, and safety while supporting a diverse production team.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with day‑to‑day leadership of the production team.
• Maintain production efficiencies of 85% or higher.
• Ensure product quality exceeds expectations and coordinate with quality inspectors.
• Oversee accurate completion of production tally sheets and raw material usage tracking.
• Monitor machine and mould performance, schedule mould servicing, and manage critical spares.
• Coordinate on‑hold products, packing, labelling and ensure correct paperwork is displayed.
• Allocate staff to machines according to the staffing schedule and provide hands‑on assistance as needed.
• Enforce safety standards and achieve housekeeping scores above 90%.
• Support maintenance, mould changes, and weekly stock‑takes of consumables.
• Participate in process optimisation, new product recipe creation and weekly production meetings.

Required profile

• Matric and N3 or NQF5 qualification in a related technical field.
• Minimum of 3 years experience as a Shift Setter in production.
• Strong interpersonal and team‑management abilities.
• Experience with blow moulding and injection moulding is advantageous.
• Excellent communication across all organisational levels.
