Tax Manager – Lead a High‑Performing Tax Team

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead our tax department within a well‑established chartered accounting firm. You will provide strategic tax advice to a diverse client base while ensuring compliance with South African tax regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of Tax Consultants and a Tax Administrator.
• Ensure all tax deadlines and departmental targets are met.
• Review and oversee tax calculations and returns for companies, trusts, and individuals.
• Prepare and review IRP6 provisional tax returns and manage IRP5/IT3 certificate submissions.
• Handle SARS audits, objections, disputes and complex tax queries.
• Review income tax assessments, identify errors, and provide tax opinions.
• Manage high‑level SARS disputes, tax legal processes, and foreign tax matters.
• Oversee VAT and PAYE audits, objections and assessments.
• Utilise SARS eFiling and related platforms for tax administration.
• Mentor and develop the tax team while maintaining exceptional client service.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of proven experience in a tax‑focused role.
• Experience managing or supervising a tax team.
• Strong technical knowledge of South African taxation and direct experience dealing with SARS.
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
• Highly organised, target‑driven and deadline focused.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
