Strategy & Public Policy Manager – Africa (12‑month contract)

About the role

Airbnb is seeking a Strategy & Public Policy Manager for sub‑Saharan Africa, based in Cape Town, on a 12‑month contract. The role works closely with politicians, regulators and legislators to promote the sharing‑economy model, highlight Airbnb’s social and economic impact and help shape fair legal frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Campaign Manager MEA in reviewing strategy, advising on local needs and planning activities.
• Lead the development and implementation of Airbnb’s legislative and public‑policy initiatives, including setting advocacy priorities and drafting positions.
• Engage with legislative bodies and government agencies to negotiate language for legislation and provide comments on regulations.
• Represent Airbnb in coalitions, build partnerships and manage external consultants to advance advocacy goals.
• Monitor regulatory developments, produce analysis, briefings and position papers, and advise internal teams on policy implications.

Required profile

• Minimum seven years of experience handling policy issues in a corporate, NGO, governmental or political context.
• Direct policy experience in tourism, housing, landlord‑tenant law or e‑commerce/internet regulation with a proven track record of influencing legislation.
• University degree (or advanced degree) in a related field.
• Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
