About the role

The Storeman will be based at Life Groenkloof Hospital reporting to the Catering Manager. You will play a key part in ensuring the catering department runs smoothly by managing stock, handling deliveries and supporting the hospital’s high standards of quality and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Place timely orders for food, beverages, disposables and catering supplies according to demand and approved supplier lists.
• Check deliveries against purchase orders, verify quality, expiry dates and compliance with hospital standards.
• Distribute catering stock to wards, kitchens and dining areas using requisition forms and proper documentation.
• Maintain accurate stock records, monitor usage trends and prevent shortages or over‑stocking.
• Apply FIFO rotation to minimise waste and ensure food safety.
• Track spoilage, report discrepancies and implement measures to reduce losses.
• Communicate with vendors regarding deliveries, shortages and quality issues.
• Follow hospital procurement policies, HACCP standards and health & safety regulations.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• At least 2 years’ experience in catering services, preferably in a hospital.
• Knowledge of infection control and health & safety procedures.
• Ability to work shifts according to operational requirements.
• Understanding of the private healthcare industry is an advantage.

Required skills

• Familiarity with stock management systems.
• Proficiency in spreadsheets.
• Experience with requisition software.
