Storage Specialist – Dell PowerMax to IBM VTS Migration

About the role

The Storage Specialist will lead the migration of enterprise mainframe storage workloads from Dell EMC PowerMax to IBM Virtual Tape System (VTS) and related IBM storage technologies. You will work closely with mainframe platform teams, infrastructure architects, and business stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition with minimal disruption.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the current Dell PowerMax environment, identify dependencies and develop comprehensive migration strategies, runbooks, rollback and cut‑over plans.
• Lead storage discovery, capacity assessments and migration readiness activities, coordinating testing cycles and production cut‑overs.
• Configure, administer and integrate IBM VTS with z/OS and enterprise backup/recovery solutions, managing virtual tape libraries, pools and retention policies.
• Support IBM zSeries storage administration, including provisioning, performance tuning and FICON connectivity.
• Monitor storage KPIs, forecast capacity needs and implement optimization initiatives.
• Support disaster‑recovery replication, participate in DR testing and ensure RTO/RPO compliance.
• Produce architecture diagrams, operational procedures and maintain configuration and audit documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in enterprise storage architecture and mainframe storage operations.
• Strong background in storage migration projects with minimal business impact.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional technical and business teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
