Sports Retail Internship – Johannesburg

About the role

The Total Sports Internship Program provides a structured learning experience for students passionate about the sports industry. Interns will rotate through various store departments, gaining hands‑to‑hand exposure to retail operations, customer service, sales, marketing and inventory management.

Key responsibilities

• Support day‑to‑day operations including sales floor assistance, product merchandising, inventory management and customer service.
• Maintain visual standards and ensure a clean, organized store environment.
• Engage with customers, provide product information and recommendations, and deliver exceptional service.
• Assist marketing initiatives and campaigns, both in‑store and online, to promote products, events and promotions.
• Create social media content, write captions, capture product photos and monitor engagement.
• Handle stock management tasks such as receiving, unpacking and organizing merchandise shipments.
• Collaborate with team members to achieve sales targets and analyse sales data and trends.
• Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance product knowledge and sales techniques.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in sports management, retail management, marketing or a related field.
• Passion for sports and good understanding of sports products and brands.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer‑focused mindset.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with colleagues at all levels.
• Basic knowledge of social media platforms and digital marketing principles.
• Proactive attitude, flexibility and willingness to learn.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
