Software Engineer – Back-End III

About the role

Capitec is looking for an experienced back‑end software engineer to design, build and continuously improve the core systems that power its high‑impact payment platform. You will work on critical, high‑scale services that handle daily transactions for millions of customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and evolve reliable, scalable back‑end services that support critical payment flows.
• Integrate internal platforms and external service providers through clean APIs and reusable components.
• Write maintainable code, enforce strong testing practices and participate in code reviews.
• Support production systems by investigating incidents, improving stability and contributing to performance tuning, capacity planning and resilience.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less‑experienced engineers and influence architectural decisions.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional software development experience, primarily focused on back‑end systems.
• Demonstrated ability to balance performance, security, resilience and cost when designing large‑scale services.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive ownership mindset.
• Experience collaborating with product partners, delivery leads and cross‑functional teams.
