Shopping Centre Operations Manager (Facilities)

About the role

The Shopping Centre Operations Manager (Facilities) is responsible for the technical and managerial oversight of a retail centre’s maintenance, engineering services and service providers. The role ensures safe, reliable, and cost‑effective operation of all building systems while complying with statutory regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage operational budgets, CAPEX and R&M forecasts, and produce variance reports.
• Plan and execute preventive, planned and emergency maintenance programmes in partnership with line managers and facility teams.
• Oversee hard and soft services, monitor supplier KPIs, negotiate contracts and ensure services stay within budget.
• Implement energy‑saving initiatives, manage utility billing, and monitor solar performance where applicable.
• Maintain asset registers, control inventory, spares and tools, and ensure life‑cycle planning over a 3‑5‑year horizon.
• Develop and enforce health, safety, security and emergency evacuation procedures, liaising with local authorities.
• Lead a team of technicians, identify skill gaps, provide training and drive engagement.
• Handle tenant technical queries, complaints and installations while maintaining budgetary control.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of property or built‑environment experience in a retail shopping centre.
• Diploma or degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Building Science, Construction or Facilities Management, or equivalent qualified trades.
• Proven experience managing mechanical, electrical, solar, generator and water‑reticulation systems.
• Strong knowledge of statutory health & safety regulations and procurement policies.
