Senior Training Officer – Operations

About the role

The City of eThekwini is looking for a Senior Training Officer (Operations) to design and deliver training programmes for its Medium and High Voltage networks. The role involves assessing learner competence, facilitating technical courses and ensuring safe operation of electrical distribution and transmission systems.

Required profile

• Trade Tested Artisan (Electrician) accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
• NTC4 qualification in Electrical Engineering from a recognised Further Education and Training College.
• Competent in OHM, UGM and Substations for MV/LV operations or HV Cables/HV Substations.
• Authorized to operate on eThekwini’s Medium Voltage Networks without restrictions.
• Learning Facilitator and Assessor certificates accredited by the approved Education, Training and Development Authority.
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence, First Aid certificate and Professional Driving Permit (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Minimum 5 years post‑trade test experience in electrical reticulation, including 1 year as a competent person in OHM, UGM or Substations.
• Physical fitness to perform duties, including handling electrical equipment and adhering to PPE requirements.

Required skills

• Competency in OHM, UGM and Substations for both Medium and High Voltage networks up to 275 kV.
• Operation, switching, isolating, testing and earthing of equipment ranging from 230 V to 11 kV.
• Design and delivery of technical training for distribution and transmission systems.
• Assessment and facilitation of learners in electrical engineering contexts.
