Senior State Advocate – Sexual Offence & Community Affairs

About the role

The National Prosecuting Authority seeks a Senior State Advocate to lead the Sexual Offence and Community Affairs unit across several provinces. The role involves managing complex civil and criminal litigation, providing strategic legal advice, and overseeing specialised programmes related to gender‑based violence and trafficking.

Key responsibilities

• Manage portfolios assigned by the Special Director, ensuring compliance with the SOCA mandate.
• Train, guide and supervise SOCA cluster managers, prosecutors and TCC staff.
• Implement strategic initiatives and operational plans for the business unit.
• Oversee performance management, quality control of statistics and reporting.
• Coordinate public awareness initiatives and stakeholder engagement.

Required profile

• LLB degree with at least eight (8) years post‑qualification experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
• Demonstrated ability to act independently, professionally and with credibility.
• Right of appearance under section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 1998.
• Admission as an Attorney/Advocate is an advantage.
• Strong planning, organisational and project‑management skills.
• Valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Teams, MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint.
• General computer literacy and ability to use MS Office applications.
