Senior Renewables Engineer

About the role

Our client is looking for a technically accomplished Senior Renewables Engineer to lead advisory and engineering services for utility‑scale solar PV and wind projects across Southern Africa and international markets. The role involves managing projects from feasibility through commissioning while mentoring junior engineers and driving business development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical advisory services for utility‑scale Solar PV and Wind Energy projects.
• Manage projects from feasibility studies to commissioning and operational support.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across electrical, mechanical, civil, and control disciplines.
• Review project designs, prepare technical specifications, Bills of Materials and tender documentation.
• Conduct technical due diligence for investors and lenders.
• Review EPC, Balance of Plant and O&M contracts.
• Monitor construction activities, testing, commissioning and project acceptance.
• Identify and manage technical, construction, operational and financial risks.
• Mentor junior engineers and review technical deliverables.
• Drive business development initiatives and maintain client relationships.

Required profile

• BSc Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) or BTech Engineering qualification.
• Registered ECSA Candidate Engineer aiming for PrEng registration within 1–2 years, or already professionally registered.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in renewable energy, with extensive utility‑scale Solar PV experience; Wind Energy exposure is advantageous.
• Proven technical advisory experience supporting developers, investors and financial institutions.
• Experience across the full renewable project lifecycle: feasibility, design, construction, commissioning and operations.
• Strong understanding of energy yield assessments, PV layouts and grid integration.
• Excellent project management, report‑writing and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel extensively within South Africa and internationally.
