Senior Property Bookkeeper/Accounts Manager

About the role

We are a growing property portfolio based in Johannesburg seeking a highly experienced, detail‑driven Senior Property Bookkeeper/Accounts Manager. The role involves full financial ownership of our residential and commercial assets, from billing through to trial balance, using specialised property management software.

Key responsibilities

• Portfolio Billing: manage monthly rental and levy billing, automate annual escalation percentages, and process utility, maintenance and municipal rate recoveries.
• Trust Account Management: oversee and reconcile tenant security‑deposit trust accounts.
• Debtors & Creditors: handle collections, tenant reconciliations, age analysis and supplier payments.
• Financial Reporting: generate monthly management accounts, cash‑flow statements and variance reports directly from MDA, exporting to Excel for deeper analysis.
• Manage and Mentor: supervise an accounts clerk and a leasing clerk.

Required profile

• 5+ years as a Senior Bookkeeper or Property Accountant within the South African real‑estate sector.
• 3–5+ years daily experience with MDA Property Manager or MRI Software.
• Ability to independently manage the full property accounting cycle up to trial balance.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for complex tenant queries.
• High emotional intelligence and capacity to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
