Senior Professional Nurse - Night Duty

About the role

The Senior Professional Nurse supports the Unit Manager in delivering safe, high‑quality patient care during night shifts. The role combines direct clinical duties with mentorship of new and student nurses, ensuring a positive client experience and effective risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating risks and meeting clinical quality standards.
• Manage the client experience throughout the night shift.
• Maintain optimal staffing levels, retention and utilisation of resources.
• Empower staff competence through continuous assessment, development and mentorship.
• Assist with effective management of operational expenses, including stock and capital.

Required profile

• Professional Nurse qualification (and Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing for specialist units).
• Minimum 3 years of professional nursing experience in a hospital setting.
• At least 1 year of mentorship experience.

Required skills

• Pharmacology knowledge.
• Nursing record keeping and documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Infection prevention and control practices.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
