Senior Professional Nurse - Critical Care

About the role

Mediclinic Welkom is recruiting one Senior Professional Nurse for its critical care unit. The nurse supports the Unit Manager in delivering a safe and positive client experience by mitigating clinical risks and coordinating care delivery, while providing direct patient care and mentoring new and student nurses. The position is on-site and permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating risks and meeting clinical quality standards
• Manage the client experience
• Ensure optimal supply, retention and utilisation of staffing resources
• Build staff competence through continuous assessment and development
• Assist in managing operational expenses, including stock and capital

Required profile

• Professional Nurse qualification
• Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing if managing a specialist unit (e.g. perioperative nursing)
• 3 years of professional nurse experience in a hospital
• 1 year of mentor experience
• Preference given according to the Employment Equity Plan, as well as to internal applicants who meet the minimum requirements

Required skills

• Pharmacology, nursing record keeping and nursing processes and procedures
• Relevant nursing legislation, infection prevention and control, scientific nursing principles and risk identification
• Patient assessment, audit of patient records and developing nursing care plans
• Basic life support and ACLS, ATLS and PALS training for specialised wards
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) and analysis and interpretation skills
