Senior Procurement Buyer – Manufacturing & Engineering

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Procurement Buyer to lead procurement and stores activities across three Gauteng sites for a leading South African industrial group in the manufacturing sector. The role combines hands‑on buying with supervisory responsibilities, ensuring efficient supply of operational and engineering items while driving cost‑saving initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end procurement for multiple Gauteng locations, covering engineering spares, chemicals, consumables, gases, oxygen and diesel.
• Negotiate pricing, terms and contracts with suppliers, focusing on cost reduction and value improvement.
• Identify and qualify new suppliers to enhance pricing, service, quality and competitiveness.
• Monitor supplier performance against agreed service levels and resolve supply delays.
• Oversee purchase orders, stock replenishment, daily MRP requirements and expedite outstanding orders.
• Supervise stores operations, including receiving, issuing, stock control, cycle counts and inventory reporting.
• Lead a small team comprising a Junior Procurement Buyer, Stores Manager and three Store Assistants.
• Prepare accurate procurement, stock and savings reports for senior management.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within procurement and stores processes.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of procurement experience in an industrial, engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Proven supervisory experience with a small procurement/stores team.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve measurable cost savings and procurement improvements.
• Strong commercial judgement and supplier negotiation skills.
• Experience in the automotive sector is preferred but not mandatory.
