Senior Node.js Developer – Cape Town (Onsite)

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Senior Node.js Developer to join a forward‑thinking organisation in the heart of Cape Town. The role focuses on building robust backend systems within a collaborative, in‑office environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy scalable backend applications using Node.js.
• Write clean, efficient, well‑documented code following best practices.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers and other stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure high code quality.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs and technical issues.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and decisions.
• Develop and maintain unit and integration tests.
• Stay current with Node.js ecosystem trends and mentor junior developers.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in backend development with Node.js.
• Proficiency in JavaScript and common Node.js frameworks (e.g., Express.js).
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
• Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong grasp of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms and design patterns.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication and teamwork skills.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science or related field (beneficial but not mandatory).
