Senior Mechanical Designer (Mining & Minerals)

About the role

Wood Mining & Minerals is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to lead the creation of high‑quality mechanical drawings and plant design documentation for mining and mineral processing projects. The role combines 3D modelling, 2D drafting and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely delivery and compliance with HSSE and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D CAD models and 2D drafting annotations for mining processing plant components.
• Convert 2D vendor drawings into accurate 3D models.
• Produce detailed mechanical designs and drawings covering all aspects of plant construction packages.
• Ensure timely completion of mechanical deliverables within schedule and budget.
• Perform vendor inspections, material take‑offs, and generate standard and detail drawings.
• Maintain drawing quality through internal and client reviews, checking and compliance procedures.
• Collaborate with consultants, other disciplines and project managers to meet client objectives.

Required profile

• Tertiary technical qualification (e.g., National Diploma) in a relevant engineering field.
• 5–8 years of mechanical design experience in mining and minerals processing, both in design offices and field environments.
• Strong knowledge of mineral processing equipment such as primary, secondary and tertiary crushers, vibrating screens, feeders, stockpiles and belt conveyors.
• Understanding of fabrication, construction and operational aspects of mechanical systems.
• Proactive attitude, high personal integrity and the ability to work independently.

Required skills

• 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting.
• Proficiency with CAD software packages (company‑standard 3D and drafting tools).
• Competence in word processing, databases and spreadsheets.
• Checking and reviewing of mechanical drawings.
• Knowledge of mining plant equipment and mechanical technology.
