Senior Manager - Software Developer

About the role

As a member of the squad, the Senior Manager – Software Developer will design, develop and maintain reliable, innovative software solutions that enable MTN to deliver cutting‑edge telecommunications services. The role works closely with the engineering manager and cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable applications while fostering continuous improvement and adoption of emerging technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain reliable, innovative software solutions for MTN’s telecommunications services.
• Collaborate with engineering manager, DevSecOps engineers, testers and other squad members to translate business requirements into scalable applications.
• Lead agile activities such as sprint planning, daily stand‑ups and retrospectives, ensuring timely delivery of user stories.
• Architect, develop and deploy new microservices in containerised environments and leverage cloud‑native components across multiple platforms.
• Drive continuous improvement by adopting automation tools, optimizing workflows and ensuring security and compliance standards are met.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Electronics & Communication or related field; postgraduate qualification preferred.
• 7+ years of relevant experience, including 4‑5 years as a full‑stack, front‑end or back‑end developer.
• Experience with telecom‑based software technologies and strong understanding of telecom systems, protocols and industry standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency in the Java technology stack.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and container environments.
• Strong knowledge of web technologies, APIs, web services, and both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms and performance characteristics.
• Familiarity with version control systems, Agile development practices and microservice architecture.
